Event Date: 6/7/2026

On June 7, we hosted an early summer tea gathering at The Place 229 under the theme Listening to the Rain. More than sixty guests joined us to experience the quiet beauty of the season through the hanging scroll, floral arrangements, and carefully selected tea utensils.

Although rain had not been forecast, a gentle shower briefly graced the afternoon. As expressed in the Japanese phrase Uki Seikō (雨奇晴好)—"Rainy days have their own unique beauty, just as sunny days do"—the unexpected rain enhanced the atmosphere of the gathering, adding a serene charm that beautifully complemented the setting of the tea room.

Over bowls of tea and seasonal sweets, conversations naturally flourished as guests shared their appreciation of the changing seasons, Japanese culture, and the traditions of chanoyu. For our members as well, the gathering provided a meaningful opportunity to deepen our understanding of the spirit of hospitality through encounters with our guests. Sharing a single bowl of tea allowed everyone present to experience the joy of ichiza konryū—the creation of a harmonious gathering in which host and guests become united in heart and spirit.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Chairman, Dr Ueno for generously providing the venue, to all who honored us with their presence, and to the many volunteers and supporters whose invaluable assistance made this gathering possible.
