University of Washington (UW) Chanoyu Club – School Year-End Tea Gathering at the Seattle Japanese Garden

ワシントン大学（UW）茶の湯クラブは、学年度の締めくくりとして、シアトル日本庭園の茶室「松声庵」において学年末茶会を開催しました。

当日は好天に恵まれ、鮮やかな新緑が映える日本庭園の風景が一層印象的でした。

The University of Washington (UW) Chanoyu Club held its School Year-End Tea Gathering at Shoseian, the teahouse within the Seattle Japanese Garden, to mark the close of the academic year. Blessed with beautiful weather and the vibrant colors of new greenery, the garden offered a serene and memorable setting for the occasion.

床の間には「茶の十得」の掛物を飾り、クラブの部員たちはこれまでの稽古や多くのイベントでのデモンストレーションを通じて培った経験を生かし、落ち着いた所作で茶会を進めました。お客様とのやりとりの中にも、学生らしい清新な心配りが感じられました。

In the alcove (tokonoma), the hanging scroll “Cha no Juttoku” (“Ten Virtues of Tea”) was displayed, setting the tone for the gathering. Drawing upon their practice throughout the year and their experience hosting numerous tea demonstrations and cultural events, the club members conducted the tea gathering with calm composure and sincerity. Their thoughtful hospitality created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all guests.

茶会の最後には、各部員が一人ずつスピーチを行い、学生時代に茶の湯と出会ったことがどれほど大切な思い出になったかを語りました。

それぞれが秋の新学期に向けて、新しい出会いや学びを楽しみにしていると述べ、春の日本庭園でのこのひとときは、参加者全員にとって心温まる学年の締めくくりとなりました。

At the end of the gathering, each member gave a short speech reflecting on their personal journey with Chanoyu. Many shared that discovering the Way of Tea during their university years had become one of their most treasured memories. Looking ahead to the new academic year, they expressed excitement for the new connections and learning opportunities to come. It was a delightful afternoon that brought everyone together to appreciate tea, nature, and friendship.
