Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region USA is pleased to announce a series of online seminars related to Japanese tea ceremony.
With the distinguished guest Daiko Matsuyama, the first session of “Zen and Tea Ceremony" aims to bring you to the world of zen spirit/teaching and shōjin ryōri, which is often called “devotion cuisine” developed by monks. While serving as deputy priest in Taizoin Temple in Kyoto, Rev. Matsuyama has worked actively across sectors and beyond national and religious borders over the past years. This seminar will offer a unique and valuable opportunity for those who are intrigued to learn more about the connection between tea ceremony and zen, including, for example, the difference between shōjin ryōri and vegetarian cuisine.
◆ Rev. Matsuyama obtained his Master’s degree in Agriculture and Life Sciences from the University of Tokyo. He became the deputy priest of Taizoin Temple in Kyoto in 2007. He has been a member of Kyoto’s Ambassadors for Tourism since 2011 and was listed as one of “The Top 100 People of the New Generation 2016” in Nikkei Business. He was appointed as a fellow of the US-Japan Leadership Program in 2016. As a young representative of the Zen sect in Japan, he has interacted with many religious leaders, such as having an audience with the Roman Catholic Pope and conversing with the 14th Dalai Lama. He also participated in the Davos World Economic Forum in 2014. As an author of zen-themed books, he has taught at the Stanford Kyoto Program since 2018.

講師：松山大耕（まつやま だいこう）和尚
今般、表千家同門会米国東部支部では、茶道にまつわるオンライン特別講話を開催することとなりました。
初回は、松山大耕（まつやま だいこう）和尚をお迎えし、禅の教えや精進料理をテーマにご講演いただきます。松山和尚は、京都にある臨済宗妙心寺で退蔵院副住職であられながら、日本やアメリカをはじめ世界各地で分野や宗教の垣根を超えた交流を繰り広げていらっしゃいます。茶道と禅、そして精進料理のつながりや、精進料理と菜食主義の違いなど、興味深いお話聞ける貴重な機会ですので、是非ご参加下さい。
◆松山大耕和尚 プロフィール 東京大学大学院農学生命科学研究科修了。2007年より京都にある臨済宗妙心寺、退蔵院副住職。日本文化の発信・交流が高く評価され、2009年観光庁Visit Japan大使に任命、スタンフォード大学で客員講師も務める。2019年文化庁長官表彰(文化庁)、重光賞（ボストン日本協会）受賞。同年日本の禅宗を代表してヴァチカンで前ローマ教皇に謁見、2014年には日本の若手宗教家を代表してダライ・ラマ14世と会談するなど、世界のさまざまな宗教家・リーダーとも交流。また、世界経済フォーラム年次総会（ダボス会議）にも出席。禅をテーマにした著書も執筆。
