Surrounded by Japanese gardens and vegetation in the suburbs of New York City, a tranquil tea house is carefully maintained and preserved by volunteer support members of the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden. About 20 members of their supporters joined us for tea. We explained the spirit of "Wa.Kei.Sei.Jyaku" and the importance of the manners of a host and the guests. The two guests who celebrated their birthdays and those who visited the site commented that they could feel a sense of peace in their hearts and souls. We hope that more people will be introduced to and use the wonderful tea house and that the beauty of "Cha no Yu" will be appreciated in the area. We displayed the "Bamboo Wind" calligraphy, which the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden received when establishing the tea room. Also, we displayed flowers the volunteer support members have taken care of and nurtured.
ニューヨーク郊外にある手入れの整いた日本庭園と草木に囲まれら静寂な雰囲気に包まれた茶室は、John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Gardenのボランティアサポートメンバーによって丁寧に維持および保存されています。20名程の同施設のメンバーに参加いただき、「和敬清寂」の精神、そしてお点前やお客の所作の重要性をお伝えすることができました。誕生日をお迎えされた2名のお客様を含め、見学をくださった方々にも心静まる時間が過ごせた、とのコメントをいただきました。水屋も設置されている素晴らしい茶室をより多くの方にご紹介とご利用をいただ き、地元で茶道文化がますます認知されることを期待します。 今回の色紙は茶室設立の際に頂戴したという「竹風」そして皆さんが手入れをして育てた花を飾らせていただきました。
